Parvez Khan is the principal of IPK.
Parvez offers advice and strategic consultancy services to government organisations, multilateral donors, trade bodies, firms and investors in the financial services, FinTech and technology industries. He has particular expertise in regulatory, economic and finance, competition and anti-trust and taxation policy, areas that increasingly concern the global financial, FinTech and wider tech and corporate sectors. As well as advising in the UK and EU, Parvez also advises and leads on development program initiatives focused on financial services and FinTech., and is interested in financial inclusion and poverty reduction in low and middle income countries.
Parvez advises companies on regulatory policy issues and competition and anti-trust issues. Recent work has included advising on EU regulation on banking and asset management, derivatives and financial infrastructure, payments, FinTech policy in the EU and UK, sustainability policy.
Parvez also advised government departments and agencies on international work. Recent work involves working with UK authorities and regulatory authorities in South East Asia on FinTech (P2P lending, crowdfunding, cryptocurrencies and digital currencies, stable-coins/e-money, eKYC and cybersecurity, on-line payments and e-wallets) and capital markets sectors.
Prior to IPK Parvez was Financial Attaché of the United Kingdom in the EU. He was the lead negotiator and head of financial markets for the UK in the European Council advising, leading on negotiations for the UK on a day-to-day level as governments shaped the post global financial crisis regulatory regime.
Some of the legislative initiatives Parvez led on for the UK Government include banking, shadow banking, hedge funds and private equity (AIFMD), short selling and sovereign debt concerns, derivatives and markets infrastructure (EMIR) for pre and post trading (MiFID/MiFIR and EMIR). Parvez continues to advise on these important areas int he context of a post Brexit UK and EU.
Prior to UKRep, Parvez was senior policy adviser at the UK Financial Services Authority (predecessor organisation to the FCA and PRA).
Parvez’s understanding of how the decision making and policy process works in practice in the UK and EU has contributed to a successful track record of providing strategic advice and delivering solutions for his clients. Parvez continues to advise on the opportunities and risks that arise in the context of political, economic and financial change in the UK, EU and also in South East Asian economies.
